Son Heung-min has admitted that he is a bit worried that the pain will resurface following his sports hernia surgery but added that he is hopeful he can be 100 per cent fit when the new season gets underway.
It was reported by Korea Herald last week that Son flew to his home country immediately after Spurs’ 4-1 victory against Leeds United on the final day of the season to undergo an operation to fix his sports hernia.
A couple of days later, the forward admitted in an interview with TV Chosun (as translated by journalist Steve Han) that he struggled with pain throughout the season and that the issue interfered with even basic movements like turning and passing.
Son did not play any part in South Korea’s international friendly against Peru last Friday but he did get a little over 20 minutes under his belt in the 1-1 draw against El Salvador on Monday after replacing Wolves striker Hwang Hee-Chan on 69 minutes.
Heung-min Son fully focused on getting fit for Spurs
Speaking after the game, the 30-year-old said about his injury (via Sungmo Lee): “I endured the pain for a long time for 8-9 months, so now it makes me worry a bit that if I do something, I would feel the pain.
“But now I’m free for a few weeks, so I believe I could be 100% for next season if I have some rest.”

The psychological impact of playing with pain for almost a year is going to linger.
It will likely take Son a few months to be brave enough to play at full pelt.
Let us hope the forward puts the issue behind him by the time the new campaign gets underway.
