‘It sounds amateur’ – Ex-Spurs player accuses Conte of looking for excuses

Ramon Vega has accused Antonio Conte of looking for excuses following Tottenham’s 1-0 defeat to Burnley on Wednesday.

Spurs failed to capitalise on their weekend scalp of Manchester City with Ben Mee’s second-half header for the Clarets proving to be the difference on a damp night at Turf Moor.

Conte’s men struggled to get out of first gear for most of the encounter, with their best effort resulting in Harry Kane nodding an effort onto the crossbar shortly after the interval.

The Italian admitted in an emotional post-match interval that, although he is attempting to improve things at Tottenham, he may need to talk with those above him about his future at the club (Evening Standard).

The startling comments have not impressed former Spurs defender Vega, who took to Twitter to say it ‘sounds amateur’ of Conte to be talking of a potential exit plan when he should be rallying his players instead.

Tottenham will look to regroup this weekend when they face Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday. Marcelo Bielsa’s side enter the encounter on the back of a 6-0 defeat to Premier League contenders Liverpool.

Conte appeared pretty emotional in his post-match press conference and that may have had a big influence on his admissions. Either way, the comments don’t sound the best right now with the squad needing to be picked up ahead of Leeds this weekend.
