‘It was all kicking off’ – Joe Rodon opens up on deadline day Spurs move

Joe Rodon has admitted that his mind was completely preoccupied with his potential move to Tottenham in the final days of the transfer window, which made it difficult for him to focus on Wales’ crucial Nations League encounter against Bulgaria last month.

While Tottenham had been heavily linked with the former Swansea defender for a couple of weeks beforehand (Sky Sports), it was not until deadline day that the North Londoners sealed a deal for the centre-back.

Rodon has become a regular for the Wales national side and featured in all three of their matches last month against England, the Republic of Ireland and Bulgaria.

The centre-back admitted that it was difficult for him to switch off from the potential move to North London in the final days of the transfer window.

The new Spurs recruit told Wales Online: “It was the first Monday, the first deadline was when it started to develop. After Bulgaria, it was basically non-stop. It was all kicking off.

“But I was delighted to get it over the line. It was quite hard, the Bulgaria game, in particular, was the hardest to concentrate.

“When I knew it was true and it was developing the way it was. It was quite hard to switch off. But we got the win and everything went well.”

The 23-year-old has only made one appearance since signing for the Lilywhites but Jose Mourinho has said that everyone at the club is excited by the youngster’s potential.
