“It was amazing” – Pochettino impressed with Ndombele impact

Tottenham Hotspur, who are the defending champions of the International Champions Cup, began their campaign with a 3-2 win over Juventus courtesy of an unbelievable late goal from Harry Kane.

Several players shined for the lilywhites during the game, none more so that new signing Tanguy Ndombele, who made his first appearance in a Spurs shirt.

The 22-year-old came on as a second half substitute and showed what he was capable of straight away by threading a brilliant ball through to Lucas Moura, to level the game at 2-2.

The French international looked extremely neat in possession and also showed his ability to win the ball back and spark things in the final third of the field.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino was asked about Ndombele’s performance, and he insisted that Tottenham’s record signing needed time to settle and that one cannot expect too much from him too quickly.

Speaking as a part of his post-match press conference, the Argentine told Football.London: “Yes, of course, I am happy but we cannot expect from him too much.

“He’s only just had the possibility to get to know his team-mates, to adapt himself to the new countries, new culture, new players, new games, new tempo.

However, Pochettino did admit that Ndombele’s quality was there for all to see during his debut and asserted that he can offer something different to the team.

He added: “All is new for him, but I think with the first touch of the ball he started to show the quality from him.

“It was amazing and you can see when he runs something can happen.

“He has the capacity to add to the team different things and I hope during the season he can help the team achieve all that they want.”

As the manager suggests, Ndombele will likely take some time to get adjusted to the Premier League but there is simply no doubting his quality. His composure on the ball as well his ability to go past players will prove a massive asset for the team.
