“It was magical” – West Ham player still living off goal against Spurs in 2017

There are not a lot of players at West Ham that would get into Tottenham’s first eleven or even make the bench.

However, one player who arguably has a decent chance would be midfielder Manuel Lanzini. Spurs were reportedly keen on signing Lanzini back in 2017 (Daily Mirror) but the move failed to materialise.

The 26-year-old has been one of the Hammer’s best performers in the last four seasons after moving from Al Jazira back in 2015, initially on a season-long loan before signing permanently.

The Argentine has put in many good displays against Spurs in the last few years but his goal against the Lilywhites in 2016/17 campaign, in particular, will live long in the memories of Spurs fans as it hampered Tottenham’s title bid that season.

Lanzini has named that winner he scored at White Hart Lane as the best moment of his Hammer’s career so far.

Speaking to West Ham’s official website, when asked to name his fondest memory in a West Ham shirt, the attacking midfielder said: “The game against Tottenham, where we won 1-0 – and I scored the goal.

“We didn’t play very well during the game, but the fans and the atmosphere were crazy, helped us, and we won – it was magical.”

That was indeed a great goal by Lanzini and that result was certainly a blow for Tottenham’s title bid. However, it shows how far apart West Ham and Tottenham are as clubs that Lanzini considers hampering Spurs’ title hopes as the best moment of his Hammers career. While the games against Tottenham are usually West Ham’s cup finals, Spurs have certainly had bigger fish to fry for the past few years.
