‘It was not about scoring more goals’ – Mourinho reacts to draw at Wolves

Tottenham Hotspur conceded late on yet again in the Premier League to drop points away to Wolves, drawing the game 1-1 despite leading it for 86 minutes.

The Lilywhites scored in the opening minute at Molineux, with Ben Davies cutting the ball back to Tanguy Ndombele who swept the ball home from the edge of the box.

Despite some positive early signs as Spurs went to chase the second, the Lilywhites soon dropped back behind the ball to defend for their lives. The only problem with this tactic was that there were over 80 minutes still on the clock.

Just as it started to look as though Mourinho and his men were going to get the three points across the line, Wolves struck from a corner with minutes left on the clock.

In fact, Tottenham were lucky not to lose the game when Fabio Silva wasted a key chance in the 95th minute to win it for Wolves.

Mourinho claimed that the problem stemmed from a lack of ambition and danger (Jonathan Veal): “We had control of the game but we had 89 minutes to score more goals and we didn’t. It was not about scoring more goals, it was about not being dangerous or being ambitious.

He added (Jonathan Veal): “We had 89 minutes to score more goals. We score early goals and we don’t kill matches…”
