‘It would be a shame’ – Spurs star on the prospect of Conte leaving this summer

Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier has admitted that it would be a shame if Antonio Conte was not head coach of the club next season.

The North Londoners registered a hard fought 1-0 win against Burnley yesterday afternoon which lifted them back into fourth place in the Premier League table ahead of Arsenal facing Newcastle United at St James’ Park later this evening.

Conte has made it clear to the club that he wants to build a squad which is capable of challenging for competitive silverware and will meet with chairman Daniel Levy and managing director of football, Fabio Paratici at the end of the season to see if their ambitions align before making a decision on his future (The Telegraph).

The Spurs head coach was recently linked with a possible move from North London to PSG in the summer, cutting his Tottenham journey short (Le Parisien).

The Italian has sparked an impressive revival of Spurs’ fortunes following his arrival in November, having replaced Nuno Espirito Santo with the club eighth in the table.

Dier told BT Sport: “That’s above my pay grade but I can speak for the group of players, and I think the manager would agree as well, the relationship between this group and the manager is something special and I really want to continue to build that relationship,”

“There’s so much room for improvement. With this group and this manager, it would be a shame for it to end now.”

The fans want Conte to stay, the players want Conte to stay – the pressure is firmly on the club’s board to ensure that the Italian is fully convinced that they are prepared to show enough ambition and spend the funds to improve the squad to a level where we can genuinely compete for silverware.
