Italian football expert explains why Conte is better fit for Spurs than Man Utd

Italian football expert Chloe Beresford has spoken to Football.London about what Tottenham fans can expect from Antonio Conte.

The doom and gloom that surrounded Tottenham after their 3-0 loss to Manchester United on Saturday has been replaced with anticipation and excitement following the arrival of Conte.

The Italian comes with an astounding CV and has expressed his intention to make sure his time at Tottenham proves to be a decorated part of his coaching career.

Beresford, who recently produced a podcast on the 52-year-old, has said that she expects the former Chelsea boss to immediately turn around Tottenham’s results.

She said: “I do think Conte’s ruthlessness will work well at Tottenham. He’s great at improving results in the short term and he will be very forthright in saying which players will work in his system and which won’t.

“He’ll get the absolute most from those who he wants to work with. If the side has been struggling for confidence under Nuno Espirito Santo, he’ll sort that out right away.”

Beresford also insisted that Conte is a better fit for Tottenham than he would have been for United.

When asked about Mourinho’s previous struggles at Spurs, she responded: “I can see why the press compare Conte to Mourinho but actually you can’t compare Conte to anyone else.

“He’s the most driven individual I’ve ever seen in the game – and that’s not to say Mou is a pushover!

“I think Conte is a better fit for Spurs than he would’ve been for United in fact, and I think he will do better than Mourinho through sheer force of will and an absolute belief in his system.”

Reports over the last 24 hours have indicated that Harry Kane is excited about the prospect of working with Conte.

Beresford backed the England captain to thrive under the former Inter boss, insisting that he would simplify the striker’s role.

“I’m convinced that Conte will have a massive impact on Kane’s form”, she said.

“Everyone in his team has a very specific role and all the moves within that role are rehearsed over and over until they are perfected.

“It should ease the burden of responsibility on Kane as he will know exactly what’s expected of him – which will be primarily to put the ball in the back of the net. The way Conte plays should make that so much easier for him.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Looking at the make-up of the Tottenham squad, I think it is perfectly suited to the 3-5-2 system Conte usually likes to implement. That makes it even more startling why Nuno never tried to use a back three even once at Spurs despite that being his predominant formation at Wolves.
