Steve Hitchen spotted abroad amid reports of defender talks

Italian football journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has offered an update on Tottenham Hotspur’s rumoured search for a new central defender.

Romano has claimed that Tottenham representatives had met with their Inter Milan counterparts yesterday in Italy to discuss a possible deal to take Milan Skriniar to North London.

The report carries a photo of Tottenham’s Technical Performance Director, Steve Hitchen supposedly in Italy which the Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick acknowledged on Twitter.

It is claimed that the Serie A giants value the 25-year-old at €60million (£55million) while Tottenham take a different view and consider him to be worth closer to €50million (£45million) including add-ons with talks continue to be held.

While Skriniar appears to be on Tottenham’s radar, Jose Mourinho’s side are also said to retain an interest in Benfica’s Ruben Dias.

Benfica are said to have changed their stance on the future of Dias after they failed to secure a place in the group stages of the Champions League and are looking within their ranks to see who can generate revenue (A Bola / Sport Witness).
