Italian journalist reveals Spurs could make move for Bastoni at ‘any time’

Tottenham Hotspur could make a move for Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni at ‘any time’, Italian journalist Niccolò Ceccarini has revealed in an article for TuttoMercatoWeb.

The report claims that Inter Milan need to raise around €60m (£50.9m) in player sales in order to improve the financial situation at the Serie A club.

Ceccaruni suggested that Tottenham are ‘strong’ on the Italian international and there has been movement ‘in the last few hours’, however, the issue remains the €60m (£50.9m) to €70m (£59.4m) fee the Nerazzurri are demanding.

Spurs are set to take Ivan Persic off the hands of the Serie A outfit, with the winger tipped to undergo a medical in London next week ahead of penning a two-year contract following the expiration of his contract (Fabrizio Romano).

Football.London journalist Alasdair Gold revealed on his YouTube channel (starting at 10:07) earlier this week that he is hearing Bastoni is the central defender that Spurs are looking to make a move for.

However, he also admitted a deal could be difficult due to the big money Inter are demanding despite the 23-year-old only having two years to run on his existing deal.

Bastoni would be a huge upgrade on Tottenham’s defensive options, and while the high value that Inter has placed on his head, Spurs are known to structure transfer payments over as many as five years, which would soften the impact of parting which a high fee to allow them to spread some of the £150 million investment across other transfer targets.
