Italian media reveal how Destiny Udogie did on his senior international debut

Corriere dello Sport have praised Destiny Udogie following his debut in Italy’s 4-0 win over Malta on Saturday.

Udogie received his first call up the Italian national team last week and it certainly did not come as a surprise, given the impressive start he has made to his Tottenham career.

The 20-year-old has seamlessly managed to adapt to the demands of the Premier League and Ange Postecoglou’s system, and all indications are that there is a lot more to come from him.

Destiny Udogie only needed 10 minutes to impress

Luciano Spalletti handed him his first cap on Saturday, as the youngster came off the bench to replace Federico Dimarco in the 80th minute before setting up Davide Fratessi for Italy’s fourth goal.

Speaking after the game, Spalletti revealed that Udogie had been asked to play as a midfielder in training, remarking that the former Udinese man is capable of operating in the middle of the park (Tuttomercatoweb).

Corriere were impressed with the Tottenham man’s senior bow at Stadio San Nicola in Barri on Saturday.

They gave him a 6/10 and wrote: “He is the first debutant under Spalletti’s management. Eleven minutes to understand the effect he has, recovering the ball which makes it 4-0.”

This is undoubtedly the first of many caps for Udogie. The fact that an experienced and reputed tactician like Spalletti believes that he can play as a midfielder is a testament to just how talented the 20-year-old is.
