Italian press give verdict on Spurs wonderkid Udogie after he ‘dominated’ Roma

Tottenham Hotspur fans should be very excited about the prospect of seeing Destiny Udogie in a Spurs shirt, after the young wing-back continued his incredible run of form with a great performance against AS Roma on Sunday.

The 19-year-old signed for Spurs this summer in a deal believed to be worth €20 million (£16.8 million), but will remain on loan at Udinese for the current campaign (Fabrizio Romano).

Udogie is set to join up with the North London club next summer, and much like Djed Spence, Spurs boss Antonio Conte sees the explosive wing-back as “a player for the future” (Football.London).

What an exciting future that could be, if Udogie keeps on playing the way he is. The wonderkid was instrumental in Udinese’s 4-0 demolition of Jose Mourinho’s Roma side in their Serie A clash, scoring the first goal for his side on the night.

With a perfectly-timed back-post run, Udogie capitalised on a defensive error to score his second goal of the season (Transfermarkt). Udogie was also instrumental in creating the fourth and final goal of the night.

The Italian press praised Udogie after the game, with Tuttomercatoweb highlighting him as one of the best players on the pitch. In Tuttomercatoweb’s player ratings, only two Udinese players scored higher than Udogie’s 7.5 out of 10.

They commented: “Dominated along the left-hand side by rapaciously scoring the 1-0 opening goal. He has Destiny in his name, and if he continues like this he will also have the blue jersey [of Italy].”

Spurs Web Opinion

It’s hard not to get excited about Destiny Udogie. The youngster seems to impress every week in Serie A, and is showing all the attributes Antonio Conte loves to see in a wing-back. If he keeps up this kind of form, he could end up being a big part of Conte’s plans for next season. There’s every chance that £16.8 million transfer fee will look like an absolute bargain at this rate.
