“It’s a good time to play them” – Chelsea star wants to make ‘statement’ against Spurs

Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic has revealed that he and his teammates are feeling confident ahead of their London derby against Tottenham Hotspur and are looking at the game as an opportunity to make a statement.

Tottenham go into the all-important clash on the back of a terrible run of form that has seen them almost lose touch with the race for the Premier League title.

A win for Chelsea this evening will see go three points ahead of Spurs, although Jose Mourinho’s men do have a game in hand over their London rivals.

The Blues have seemingly turned a corner since Thomas Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard at the helm but the game against Spurs will be the first big test for the German coach since arriving in West London.

Pulisic admitted that the players are looking forward to taking the field against Spurs after beating Burnley at the weekend.

The USA international told Chelsea’s official website: “It’s a good time to play them coming off a good result for us.

“We’re feeling confident. We’re really excited. It’s a good chance to make a statement and most importantly really build some momentum.

“We know what a good result against a good team could do for us.”

The 22-year-old, who also worked with Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund, admitted that the mood in the Chelsea camp is now a lot more positive than it was a couple of weeks ago.

He added: “It’s been good so far (to work with Tuchel). We’ve got a new outlook on things, we have had a really good win so it’s been a positive start.

“It’s been some crazy times recently and just to get a win left all the guys in the changing room really excited. We have had a lot of fun in training and there are smiles on faces which is good to see.”

Spurs Web Opinion

In many ways, this is the worst possible time for us to face Chelsea as we are without Harry Kane and coming into the game in poor form, while the Blues seem to be having a new manager bounce at the moment. However, if we somehow manage to beat Chelsea, it will bring a lot of confidence back into the team.
