‘It’s a pity’ – Dragusin’s agent admits one regret about January transfer to Tottenham

Radu Dragusin’s agent Florin Manea has admitted that he has a slight regret over not being able to sell the centre-back to Napoli last month, admitting that he has a soft spot for the reigning Serie A champions.

Tottenham had to see off competition from Bayern Munich to land Dragusin last month. In fact, some outlets even indicated that Thomas Tuchel personally phoned the Romanian on multiple occasions to convince him to move to Bavaria but the player still chose the North London club (Fanatik).

On signing for Spurs, the 22-year-old himself confirmed that the Bundesliga giants indeed wanted him but explained that he felt that a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium would be the right step for him to make at this stage of his career (The Athletic).

A little over a week ago, Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis revealed that he was prepared to offer more money than Spurs for the centre-back last month but explained that the player had his heart set on a move to the Premier League side (Area Napoli).

Manea himself has now shed light on Napoli’s attempts to sign Dragusin, admitting that he has some regret over not being able to deal with the Partenopei.

The Tottenham man’s agent told Radio CRC (as relayed by Tutto Juve): “De Laurentiis was ready to close the deal, he was there with the offer, they were almost equal with the others, but it wasn’t a question of money.

“If it had been, he would have gone to Bayern, who made the bigger offer. Dragusin felt this was the way to go and decided to go to Tottenham.

“Mr De Laurentiis left a good impression on me, he was very kind. Maradona is my idol and Napoli is in my heart.

“I hope to do a deal with Napoli in the future. It wasn’t a bad offer from Napoli, it’s a pity it turned out this way, I’m a bit of a Napoli fan.”

It bodes well for Tottenham that the likes of Dragusin and Bergvall rejected offers from bigger clubs to move to North London. That suggests that talented young players very much want to be part of the project that Ange Postecoglou is now spearheading at the club.
