‘It’s different this year’ – Former manager makes big claim about Spurs title hopes

According to Tim Sherwood, Daniel Levy will have to invest in the squad further during the January transfer window if the club are still up there challenging at the top of the Premier League table in the New Year.

No one predicted Tottenham would have such an incredible start to the season under their new manager, Ange Postecoglou. The Australian came in with very little expectations placed on him, in what many described as a transitional year for the club.

After the debacle of last season, which saw Spurs finish eighth in the Premier League, any kind of progress this term will likely be celebrated as a success.

However, after the first eight games, the Lilywhites sit at the top of the table and remain unbeaten. Six wins and two draws, including victories over top-six rivals Liverpool and Manchester United, have helped Spurs enter the conversation for a title challenge.

Sherwood says Levy will need to invest in January

While most pundits and fans still expect Manchester City to prevail come the end of the season, these tentative talks of a title charge from Spurs have got supporters of the club quietly excited.

And, if they are still up around the top of the table when the January transfer window opens, Tim Sherwood thinks Daniel Levy will need to capitalise on that in the transfer market.

He told Sky Sports News (14/10/23 at 2:35 pm): “I think it’s different this year, I really do. I think there are more teams in [the title race]. Tottenham have to be in it, at this moment in time. Why not?

“But if they are there or thereabouts in January, then why can’t they go and invest again? Daniel Levy might have to go and do that.”

Tottenham very rarely splash out in January, and I still don’t think Levy would loosen the purse strings too much regardless of where we are.

But, if we are still performing well and the fans are right behind Postecoglou, there’s no reason why Levy wouldn’t be inclined to perhaps add one more signing than previously planned as an extra push for the top.
