‘It’s exciting to see’ – Hoddle heaps praise on Spurs man after display against LASK

Glenn Hoddle has lavished praise on Tottenham new-boy Carlos Vinicius after his impressive debut performance for the Lilywhites against LASK last night.

The Brazilian, who arrived on an initial loan deal from Benfica (with an option to buy), was named in the starting line up by Jose Mourinho and he certainly repaid his boss’ faith by putting in a fine display.

Vinicius set up Lucas Moura’s opener as well as Son Heung-min’s late strike with two smart assists as Spurs brushed the Austrian team aside 3-0 to open their campaign in perfect fashion.

Apart from his involvements in the goals, the 25-year-old showcased his physical strength by holding up the ball well and also showed the awareness to drop deep and bring others into play.

Hoddle admitted that he is excited by what we saw from Vinicius on Thursday and backed him to be Mourinho’s go-to man in the Europa League and domestic cup competitions when Kane needs a rest.

Speaking to BT Sport after Spurs’ 3-0 win (as relayed by The Daily Mail), the legendry Spurs man said: “He’s [Vinicius] going to have to play against better players, but he looks to me as if he’s a focal point, he’s got ability and awareness as well. It’s exciting to see this young kid play.

“This tournament will be his tournament. I think he’ll play most of the games and the League Cup.

“Jose wants to win trophies. he doesn’t care if he wins the League Cup, Europa League, whatever, he wants to win silverware.

“It’s a club that needs it. That’ll be a stepping stone to something bigger along the way.’
