‘It’s getting closer’ – Fabrizio Romano provides update on interest in Spurs midfielder

Villarreal remain confident of reaching an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur for Giovani Lo Celso, Fabrizio Romano has claimed on Twitter.

The Italian transfer expert has revealed that fresh talks between Tottenham and the La Liga outfit will take place this week in the hope of reaching a deal to take the Argentina international back to Spain.

Lo Celso joined the Yellow Subm’sarine on loan during the latter stages of the January transfer window and impressed during his stint, having helped the club to reach the semi-final of the Champions League and appeared 15 times in La Liga (transfermarkt).

The 26-year-old has been left out of Antonio Conte’s plans this season, having not been involved in any part of the club’s pre-season preparations and was expectedly nowhere to be seen for the Premier League opener against Southampton on Saturday.

Romano has stated that Villarreal boss Unai Emery considers the midfielder to be a priority signing, but more talks are needed before any chance of a deal materialises.

Tottenham will be working hard behind the scenes to try to offload Lo Celso, along with the likes of Tanguy Ndombele, Harry Winks and Sergio Reguilon.

There’s no doubt that the club would prefer to try to reach an agreement over a permanent transfer, or at the very least a loan deal which includes an obligation so he is taken off their books come next summer.
