‘It’s horrible’ – James Maddison opens up on watching games while injured

Tottenham Hotspur fans are delighted to have James Maddison back on the pitch, but not as delighted as the man himself. The playmaker has been chatting to snooker icon Stephen Hendry about how difficult it was to watch from the stands as he sat out injured earlier this season.

For the first ten games of the season, James Maddison—and Spurs for that matter—were on fire. Unbeaten in the league, sitting at the top of the Premier League table, Ange Postecoglou‘s men could do no wrong.

That is, until a fixture against London rivals Chelsea at the start of November saw the wheels come off. Spurs lost that game 4-1, but more crucially, they saw James Maddison hobble off injured with an ankle issue that would see him miss the next two-and-a-half months.

Maddison didn’t enjoy being a Spurs spectator

While the Spurs players and fans may have missed Maddison during that time, the player himself has revealed just how much he missed being a part of the action, too.

Speaking to Stephen Hendry for his Cue Tips show, Maddison said: “You obviously have different schedules to the lads, different days off. The one benefit has been spending more time with my family, of course.

“But for all the home games, you would go and watch. You want to be there supporting the lads. But it’s horrible, I get so nervous watching the team, compared to how I feel when I’m playing. When you’re down there, you can affect the game.”

On his return, Maddison added: “It’s just good to be back out there. It’s so tough. People think you’re just going to pick up your money and you’re happy to [sit out]. But when you love the game… you’d give all the money in the world to not be injured.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It’s so good to have Maddison back and you can already see how much he is dictating the play once more. He still probably needs a week or two to hit his stride again, which will be a delight to see.
