Eric Dier has his say on whether Dele could force his way into Mourinho’s plans

Eric Dier has backed Dele Alli to force his way back into the Tottenham side and insisted that it is up to the midfielder to prove himself in training and take his opportunities when presented.

Alli was hauled off by Jose Mourinho at half-time against Royal Antwerp last week, with the Spurs boss being extremely critical of the side’s first-half performance.

Some Spurs fans feared that, on the back of Alli’s performance in Belgium, they may have already seen the last of 24-year-old in a Tottenham shirt.

Reports indicate that the midfielder is getting extremely frustrated since Mourinho has not explained why he has fallen down the pecking order and that the England international will look to leave North London in the January transfer window opens (Daily Mail).

However, Dier believes that the midfielder has more than enough quality to turn around his fortunes and insisted that it up to every single player to fight for their place.

When asked of Alli will be back in the team at some point, the central defender told Football.London: “Yeah, of course. Dele has the capacity, we all know his quality, we all know what he brings, he’s shown that in the past.

“It’s really up to him to put in the work, the effort, the commitment and I’m sure he will do that.

“That’s who he is, he’s always had that drive. It’s up to him, it’s in his hands and it’s in all of our hands.

“Individually, we all have to perform, we’ve got a very big squad and we all have to perform at the highest level if we want to play.”
