‘It’s incredible to be here’ – Spurs star scoops Player of the Season award

Heung-min Son has been voted as Spurs’ Player of the Season for a joint-record third time.

The South Korean received the accolade at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after helping his side to a crucial 1-0 victory against Burnley in the race for the top four.

An expert Harry Kane penalty was enough to see off the relegation-threatened Clarets and move Spurs two points ahead of Arsenal who travel to Newcastle United on Monday evening.

Son will be frustrated not to have moved level with Mohamed Salah at the top of the Premier League goal-scoring charts as Nick Pope pulled off two fine reaction saves to deny the Spurs number seven.

However, he has enjoyed an electric season at N17, scoring 21 times and laying on a further nine assists for teammates (TransferMarkt).

Son was characteristically happy with the award and spoke of his love for the Spurs faithful.

“Look how happy I am. It’s incredible to be here,” he said as he accepts the award. “I worked hard to be here and be part of Tottenham and it’s a pleasure to play for these amazing fans.” (Football.London).

The 29-year-old overtakes strike partner Harry Kane and moves level with Spurs legend Robbie Keane who has also picked up the title three times.

In what has been a rollercoaster year for all at Spurs, Sonny’s consistency has been crucial and he has delivered some outstanding performances for the Lilywhites.

Son’s deadly partnership with Kane and now Dejan Kulusevski has been a joy to watch and long may it continue.
