‘It’s massive, and I mean massive’ – Darren Bent reacts to Spurs squad update

Darren Bent believes that the boost Tottenham Hotspur will get from the returns of Harry Kane, Moussa Sissoko, and Steven Bergwijn cannot be overstated.

The trio, along with Son Heung-min, were all nursing injuries when the Premier League season was suspended back in March due to the spread of COVID-19.

The Lilywhites’ form suffered terribly due to the injuries as the side struggled to score goals and secure wins in the Premier League.

Jose Mourinho has confirmed that all four players are now back from injury but admitted that they have some way to go before they can be considered match-fit (Sky Sports).

Kane and Son have both revealed that they are ready to play and raring to go for the restart.

Bent believes that having the likes of Kane and Sissoko back will not only be a massive boost for Spurs due to what they bring on the pitch but also because of their leadership qualities.

Speaking to Football Insider, the former Tottenham striker said: “It’s massive, and I mean massive, because Spurs were struggling for form, had no one with that killer instinct.

“With Harry Kane coming back, you’re talking a leader, he’s a really important part of your team. You talk about Sissoko, a real engine, livewire, non-stop running and Steven Bergwijn, though he did well, hit the ground running with a bang.

“For me, it was paramount that they came back. It might take them a couple more weeks to get up to that peak, peak condition because you only really get super match fit by playing matches.

“From that perspective, it might take them a little bit of time but in terms of actually being fit to play, I think they’ll be alright.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think a lack of match fitness is a big problem for the likes of Kane and Sissoko as none of the players have played a game for the past three months. Therefore, everyone is in the same boat in that respect and it will likely take a few games for the players to get back to their optimal level.
