‘It’s massive’ – Pundit explains why Carlos Vinicius could prove to be a bargain for Spurs

Former Coventry City striker, Noel Whelan believes that the arrival of Carlos Vinicius could prove to be a major boost for Tottenham as it could give Harry Kane the rest that he needs.

Kane has played almost every game for club and country when he has been fit over the last five or six years and the striker has suffered some serious injury woes as a result (transfermarkt.com).

Due to his hamstring injury back in January and the subsequent suspension of football due to the pandemic, the striker was handed nearly six months of rest before the restart.

It looks as though that may have had an impact on his performances as the 27-year-old has looked extremely sharp at the start of the campaign, just as he did in the final few games of last season.

Vinicius was handed his Tottenham debut against LASK on Thursday and he proved that he can be an able deputy for the England captain, as he set up two of the home side’s three goals with intelligent pieces of play.

Whelan believes that the Brazilian could prove to be a bargain for the Lilywhites. The pundit told Football Insider: “It’s massive, it takes a bit of pressure off Harry Kane, they needed another out-and-out striker.

“You can’t keep going through a season thinking Harry Kane’s going to be fit forever, he needs that rest, he’s been away with England and he’s going to start every Premier League game for Tottenham, that’s for sure.

“When it comes to European games, if you can give him that respite and that little bit of sitting on the bench, resting your legs and you’ve got another out-and-out striker with that sort of quality to bring people into play and get assists, score goals, you’ve got to take that opportunity.

“The games, when you’re a successful side, come thick and fast whether you’re in the Premier League or in Europe. I think they did need that extra centre-forward up there and he looks like a great signing.

“If he carries on with that kind of form, he’s going to be a snip of a signing as well.”
