“It’s no secret that Mourinho wants him out” – Pundit predicts exit for Spurs star

Former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan is under no illusion that Tottenham Hotspur will sell Serge Aurier before the start of the new campaign.

Tottenham are reported to be ready to listen to offers for the Ivory Coast international along with Juan Foyth in order to raise funds for new transfer targets with Lille’s Zeki Celik said to be on the club’s radar (Telegraph).

Aurier established himself as Tottenham’s first choice right back following the arrival of Jose Mourinho in November after previously struggling for game time under Mauricio Pochettino.

Despite playing regularly, Whelan claims that the former PSG player has been used out of necessity with Mourinho wanting him out of the North London outfit.

Sky Sports have previously claimed that Aurier is the subject of interest from Monaco and AC Milan.

Despite being somewhat inconsistent with his displays, Aurier recently showed remarkable character to continue to make himself available for selection despite the loss of his brother, who was tragically shot in France.

Whelan told Football Insider:“I think it’s clear to see his time at Tottenham’s done, it’s no secret that Mourinho wants him out the club and he wants someone else to come in and replace him.

“He’s not the Mourinho sort of player he wants. He’s been playing because he’s not got too many other options quite frankly. I think we’ll see him out the door.”
