“It’s still early days for him” – Manager comments on Spurs’ summer signing

Swansea City boss Steve Cooper has admitted that everyone at the Welsh club will be rooting for Joe Rodon to succeed at Tottenham Hotspur following his deadline day move to North London.

Rodon was rated very highly at Swansea, as was evident from the reaction of some of their fans when the deal was announced, with many feeling that the club had been short-changed after it emerged that Spurs paid just £11m (plus addons) to land the central defender.

Jose Mourinho has admitted that everyone at Tottenham is excited by the young defender’s potential and mentality (Football.London).

The 23-year-old made his debut for Spurs on Monday as he came on a late-substitute at Turf Moor to help the Lilywhites see out a 1-0 lead.

His prospect of seeing more game time has not been helped by the fact that he was signed too late to be included in the club’s Europa League group stage squad.

When asked about Rodon in his press conference on Thursday, Copper told Wales Online: “It’s still early days for him.

“I don’t think we should be talking too much yet. We wish him well and from afar we’ll be supporting him on that.

“Our focus is on the boys here. We’ve got to commit to developing the next set of players.”
