‘It’s time to win again’ – Tottenham star insists that the squad remains confident

Tottenham succumbed to their third straight defeat in all competitions last night, as they dropped three points to 15th place Serie A team Inter Milan in the Champions League.

That marks two games in three that Tottenham have led 1-0 and lost the game late on. All three of Tottenham’s defeats have finished 2-1.

Despite the loss, Tottenham put in arguably their performance of the season, looking far from perfect but much more like themselves.

Christian Eriksen put the team 1-0 up with a deflected looping effort on 53 minutes, and Tottenham went on the control the game up until 85.

It was only a freak wonder volley from Mario Icardi that brought Inter Milan level, who looked to be offering very little in terms of a reply.

With the crowd behind the team, Inter were then able to nod home the winner two minutes into injury time, breaking Spurs hearts around the world.

Despite these three losses, Erik Lamela insists that confidence in the changing room is still high.

“No, I don’t think we’re losing our confidence. We still believe in each other in this team. That’s why we always fight until the end of the season.

“Of course, people are thinking like this. But inside the dressing room, I can tell you it’s not like this. We believe in this team.

“It’s time to win again. The way we played against Inter will help a lot but we’ have confidence in ourselves.

“We’re disappointed because we were winning and to lose like this in the last 10 minutes is bad. It’s bad for us because we came here to win and in the end we didn’t get the points, so very disappointed.

“The feeling is like when you lose – bad, bad. But we need to keep going and move on. It’s the only way to recover from this – to keep putting everything on the pitch and try to get back to winning ways.

“I don’t know honestly if we deserved to lose. In the second half, we scored and then we managed the game. They were tired, we should have scored more goals.

“I had a lot of chances. My teammates too. Their ‘keeper did well…sometimes the ball goes in. Tonight it wasn’t like this and they had two chances and they scored two goals.

“Football is like this sometimes. But there’s nothing to say. We have to improve and next time try to score and finish the game. That’s it.”
