‘I’ve heard’ – Pundit urges Mourinho not to loan youngster out next season

Gabriel Agbonlahor has urged Jose Mourinho to hand Dane Scarlett first-team opportunities at Tottenham Hotspur next season rather than loaning the youngster out.

Scarlett has been on fire in front of goal for the Under-18s this season, registering 15 goals and 4 assists in 14 matches so far.

He has been rewarded by Mourinho with three senior appearances this season, with the youngster coming for a couple of cameos in the Europa League and also making his Premier League bow.

Tottenham announced earlier this week that Scarlett has signed his first professional contract with the club after turning 17.

Mourinho has raved about the teenager, comparing him to Manchester United star Marcus Rashford and admitting that he plans on promoting him to the first-team next season.

Agbonlahor believes that would be the right move as the youngster has the potential to be a breakthrough star for Spurs next season.

When asked if he would loan Scarlett out, the former Aston Villa striker told Football Insider: “I’d have him around the first-team and see what happens. I’ve heard he’s a very good player.

“I’m sure Jose Mourinho will give him the opportunity if he’s good enough.

“Sometimes young players should go on loan but I feel Spurs might move on some players.

“So I think he should stay and try and get involved. They will be involved in a lot of competitions as well.”

Scarlett is too young to be loaned out to the lower leagues next season which is why I expect him to be used in the cup competitions once again. I can see Spurs deciding to loan the youngster out for the 2022/23 season depending on how he develops until then.
