Jack Grealish admits £28m Villa teammate asks him about Spurs talisman

Jack Grealish has admitted that his Aston Villa teammate, Ollie Watkins asks him about what Harry Kane does in training so that he can incorporate it into his own game.

Grealish, who was previously on Tottenham’s radar, linked up very well with Kane during last month’s international break, with the midfielder admitting that the pair had a natural understanding.

The Villa star has been one of the best players in the Premier League this season and looks set to play a major part for the Three Lions during the Euros next summer.

Tottenham were reportedly also eyeing Watkins as a potential back up to Kane this summer but the North Londoners reportedly hesitated, allowing the Villans to swoop for the striker (Football Insider).

The 24-year-old has already shown that he has the attributes to succeed in the Premier League and Grealish revealed that the former Brentford man is desperate to learn from the likes of Kane.

When asked about Watkins, the midfielder told Sky Sports’ Soccer AM: “I think it’s always hard for a striker to come in from the Championship. People look at you and say ‘oh, he has only done it in the Championship’.

“It’s a big step-up. We have seen a lot of strikers over the years do well and they have come up to the Premier League and they couldn’t cut it. But Ollie’s completely different to that. He works so hard on the training field.

“He is always asking me questions about other strikers that I play with at England. The likes of Harry Kane. Asking me what he does and what makes his so good. And he’s so desperate to improve which is, of course, a good sign.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Watkins has made a decent start to his Premier League career and we might come to regret not swooping for him in the summer. However, I am still not convinced that he is of the required quality we needed as a backup to Kane. While the jury is still out on Vinicius, at least he is more of a target man and provides us a different kind of option. Watkins is more of a forward who works the channels, which we already have in the form of Son, Moura, Bale and Bergwijn.
