Jack Grealish on his failed move to Spurs after Villa secure Premier League return

Aston Villa returned to the Premier League yesterday after beating Derby County 2-1 in the Championship play-off final at Wembley.

Boyhood Villa fan Jack Grealish led out his side and helped them to secure the victory that ended their spell in the second tier of English football.

Last summer, Grealish was heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur with the midfielder even admitting last September he was disappointed not to make the switch to North London (Telegraph).

The Villa academy product was the subject of a reported £25million bid from Spurs last summer but it was rejected by the club’s new owners.

Instead, Grealish remained with Villa and is now a Premier League player and after the victory he spoke about how he expected not to be at the club at the start of the campaign.

He told Sky Sports Main Event TV channel on 28/5/19 at 17:00: “At that game [Hull in August] I thought I was going and ten months later I’m here and have led my boyhood club to the PL as captain, scored against Blues twice, the perfect season”

During Villa’s 3-1 win at Hull City back in August, Grealish appeared to wave goodbye at the Villa fans only to see a move to Spurs fail to materialise.

Opinion

Jack Grealish is a talented footballer and if Spurs still hold a desire to sign him, it will certainly cost them a considerable amount more than the reported £25million they offered last summer.
