Jack Pitt-Brooke claims Spurs are ‘more likely than not’ to sign Conte target

The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke has said that Tottenham Hotspur are more likely than not to complete a deal for Adama Traore before the January transfer window closes.

Antonio Conte reportedly wants to convert the pacy winger into a right wing-back at Tottenham, with the Italian thought to be unconvinced that Emerson Royal fits the bill (The Times).

Duncan Castles suggested last week on the Transfer Window Podcast that the 25-year-old is not close to swapping Molineux for north London while Spanish news outlet Sport claimed that the winger was likely to move to Barcelona in the summer.

However, after Wolves completed the signing of Portuguese winger Chiquinho from Estoril on Monday, it has emerged the West Midlands club could give the green light for Traore to join Spurs (Daily Star).

Pitt-Brooke has now said that it is more than likely that Tottenham land the wide man despite Wolves’ unwillingness to sell him.

The journalist also spoke about the possibility of Spurs including Matt Doherty as a makeweight in the deal.

Pitt-Brooke said on The View from The Lane Podcast: “I think it’s more likely than not that they will end up signing Adama Traore.

“Traore, I gather, is still the likeliest target to come in, Tottenham are working on trying to get a deal done, Wolves do want to sell him and Spurs are trying to find a way to do it.

“Some talk about a possibility of a loan with an obligation, and I do think that Matt Doherty were to go back to Wolves it would be easier because that could be part of the deal, but so far, I don’t have any indication that that will actually happen, even if Tottenham want it to happen.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Based on the various reports over recent days, it sounds like Spurs are confident that they would be able to seal Traore’s signing and are looking to get the best deal possible since Wolves are not in a strong negotiating position due to the winger’s contract situation.

I am sure Spurs fans would prefer the club to get the deal done quickly even if it meant paying an extra few million but that is not the way we operate. This deal could well go down to the final few days of the window.
