Jack Wilshere claims 28-year-old would be an upgrade on Hugo Lloris at Spurs

Jack Wilshere has claimed that Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford would be an upgrade over Hugo Lloris.

Yesterday, Tottenham officially announced their capture of Richarlison from Everton, with the Brazilian becoming the club’s fourth signing of the summer for the club.

90min claimed earlier this week that Spurs enquired about Pickford’s availability while negotiating with the Toffees for the 25-year-old.

The report added, however, that the Lilywhites do not view England as number one as a target for this summer, with Hugo Lloris expected to remain the first choice between the sticks.

This is not the first time that Tottenham are being linked with a move for Pickford, with The Telegraph reporting soon after Antonio Conte’s appointment in November of last year that the Italian wants the Everton number one to be Lloris’ successor.

Wilshere has now endorsed Spurs’ interest in Pickford, insisting that the 28-year-old is a better all-around goalkeeper than the World Cup winner.

When asked if Pickford would be an upgrade on Lloris, the former Arsenal midfielder said on talkSPORT (6:41 pm, June 30, 2022): “Yes. All-round, yeah, he is better (than Hugo Lloris), his distribution.”

Distribution is the only area where Pickford would be an upgrade over Hugo. However, having said that, I do think the Everton goalkeeper is underrated, and I can see why Conte would want him to be Lloris’ long-term successor at Spurs.
