Jack Wilshere makes admission about Tottenham and Arsenal this season

Jack Wilshere has admitted that most Arsenal fans will consider this season to be a successful one if the Gunners finish above their North London rivals in the table.

Tottenham and Arsenal were at the two extreme ends of the Premier League table after the first three matches of the season but Mikel Arteta’s side managed to close down the gap quickly.

Arsenal’s 3-1 win in the North London derby last Sunday took them above the Lilywhites in the table and the result piled the pressure on Nuno Espirito Santo.

However, Tottenham have responded positively to the derby defeat, thrashing NS Mura 5-1 in the Europa Conference League in midweek and beating an in-form Aston Villa side 2-1 on Sunday.

The win over Villa has taken Nuno’s men to eighth place in the table, two points ahead of their local rivals who played out a 0-0 draw against Brighton on Saturday.

Wilshere admitted that the objective for his former club this season would be finishing above Spurs and qualifying for Europe.

He told Sky Sports Premier League (8:21 pm, October 2, 2021): “I think most fans would accept finishing above Tottenham, but I think realistically with the young team and the changes, new players that have come in, I think getting back into the Europa League would be a successful season.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The expectations at both Tottenham and Arsenal are as low as they have been for a while. Neither club seem to have much of a chance of finishing in the top four this season, which is why the bragging rights of finishing as the top North London club probably takes up more meaning than it has in previous campaigns.
