Jack Wilshere makes claim about Spurs and West Ham trophy desperation

Jack Wilshere has claimed that Tottenham are currently more desperate to win a trophy than West Ham.

Both sides have endured lengthy spells without silverware, but much had been made of Tottenham’s drought in recent times.

Spurs have not won a major trophy in over 13 years since winning the League Cup in 2008, while West Ham’s last piece of silverware came in the form of an FA Cup triumph 41 years ago.

Wilshere, who is currently training with Arsenal as a free agent, was quizzed by the talkSPORT panel on which side needs a trophy the most, to which he answered Spurs because they need to keep Harry Kane on board.

Wilshere said: “Spurs for me.

“I think expectation and remember they are trying to keep Harry Kane. He wants trophies. He’s that important to them that I think they are more desperate for them.”

Spurs kept their Carabao Cup campaign alive on Wednesday evening, booking their place for the competition’s quarter-finals with a 1-0 win over Burnley.

The club reached the final of last season’s competition but fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City. They will be hoping to go one better in 2022 and finally end that long trophy drought.

Spurs Web Opinion

Everyone at Spurs knows a club of its stature should not be enduring a silverware drought like this, and it needs to be rectified badly.

Unfortunately, the monetary incentives of simply qualifying for European football outweighs that of winning domestic competitions which puts them on the back burner.
