James Maddison has revealed that he is a big fan of Declan Rice, admitting that he cannot stand the fact that the midfielder players for Arsenal.
Maddison has been lauded by many pundits as the signing of the season so far (Sky Sports), with the attacking midfielder taking his game to a new level since his switch to Spurs in the summer.
If there is one player who could perhaps contest the Tottenham man for that title, it is Rice.
Although the 24-year-old cost almost three times what Maddison did (Arsenal paid £105m to sign him from West Ham), he has hit the ground running at the Emirates, making the Gunners a much more solid outfit.
Rice has also quickly emerged as one of Arsenal’s leaders and some will argue that his arrival in the summer is the main why Mikel Arteta’s men are currently sitting at the summit of the Premier League table.
James Maddison hates that Declan Rice is a Gunner
Maddison is well aware of the former Hammers star’s qualities, having played with him for the national side.
When asked about Rice, the Tottenham man told Amazon Prime Video: “Yeah. He’s technically really, really good. We do passing for England in training. He is a joke when it comes to low-cut passes, zingers. I think he’s a top, top player. I hate that he plays for Arsenal.”
Spurs web Opinion
Arsenal’s rice over the last couple of years perhaps shows that Spurs would eventually have to make a couple of £80m-£100m signings if they are to make that extra step and eventually challenge for the title.
However, that would not be the club’s priority at the moment, with a top-four finish evidently being the Lilywhites’ focus this season.
