James Maddison explains why the Spurs squad have ‘bought into’ Postecoglou

In a recent interview, James Maddison has revealed why he and the rest of the Tottenham Hotspur squad have ‘bought into’ Ange Postecoglou’s approach to management and footballing style.

A few eyebrows were raised when Spurs appointed Postecoglou as the new permanent manager at the club, namely for the fact the Australian had not yet been a manager in one of the top leagues in Europe. The former Celtic man, however, is very accustomed to winning trophies wherever he goes.

The 57-year-old has quickly won over any doubters with his commitment to attacking football and general positive attitude in press conferences and interviews.

Postecoglou has also been shrewd in the transfer market thus far, acquiring Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison, Manor Solomon, and Ashley Phillips.

Maddison is the real statement signing of the Postecoglou era so far, and has looked lively in the two pre-season friendlies Spurs have played so far this summer.

The former Leicester City playmaker is a proven provider of goals and assists at the very top level, and is expected to fill the creative void at Spurs.

Maddison praises Postecoglou’s approach

Speaking to talkSPORT about his new manager, James Maddison explained why he and the rest of the Spurs players are so happy with Postecoglou.

He said: “He’s been really good, to be honest. He is very thorough, he has his way of playing and that’s it. We’ve all bought into it, to be fair. The lads have been brilliant, really taking it on.

“Obviously, it might be a little bit different, especially because previously Tottenham have had more defensive-minded managers. The gaffer is not like that at all. He’s very front-foot, very attacking, and he believes in that. His messages, tactically, you can tell he believes in that. He says it with real authority.

“He is straight down the line, a very honest man. All the lads are buying into it and hopefully, that can bring us success.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Everything we are hearing from the inside suggests Ange Postecoglou has really struck a chord with the Spurs players.

Now, I just hope his approach and style of play translate to positive performances and results on the pitch. It may take some time for the system to take effect, but I have faith it will come good eventually.
