Ahead of Tottenham’s final three league matches of the season, Alasdair Gold has provided a big update on the injury to James Maddison.

The attacking midfielder is yet to feature this season, having suffered an ACL injury in pre-season last summer.

Maddison has been on the bench for Tottenham in their last three league games after returning to training, but De Zerbi has decided against bringing him on.

The Tottenham boss described Maddison as a ‘special player’, admitting that he would like him to play, but explained that he also has to carefully consider the 29-year-old’s physical condition, given how long he has been out for.

James Maddison will play a part in Tottenham’s relegation battle

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has confidently asserted that De Zerbi will have Maddison available to use at some points over the next few weeks.

He reveals that the attacking midfielder was fully involved in the warm-up routine ahead of the clash at Villa Park.

Additionally, Maddison was also seeing warming up on the sidelines during the game, although he only had his short white Nike sport socks on rather than match ones.

Gold asserts that the 29-year-old ‘will play a part in trying to keep Spurs up’ at some point before the end of the campaign. The journalist adds that the former Leicester man is keen to be involved with what is happening under De Zerbi.

Gallagher’s impressive performance means Spurs can be cautious with Maddison

Ahead of Tottenham’s clash at Villa, some pundits suggested that Maddison is the only player who can offer creativity to Spurs, following the injury to Xavi Simons.

However, Gallagher delivered an outstanding display as a number 10 at Villa Park, scoring a sublime goal, which was his first one for Spurs.

De Zerbi even said playing with Gallagher is akin to having an extra player on the pitch, and the Tottenham boss may not see a reason to rush Maddison back, given the former Atletico Madrid man’s showing on Sunday.
