James Maddison makes bold Tottenham claim ahead of Man City clash

James Maddison believes that Tottenham can be in a much stronger position going into next month’s international break, making a bold claim ahead of the North London club’s next clash against Manchester City.

While Spurs are still languishing in 12th place in the Premier League table, the club have shown signs of recovery over recent weeks, having won their last three Premier League games in a row, two of which came away from home.

The fact that the resurgence has coincided with the return of key players and the reduction in fixture congestion should give Tottenham fans hope that Ange Postecoglou‘s men have turned a new leaf.

While the Europa League has taken centre stage for Spurs over the rest of the season, they will want to move into a more respectable position in the table, and Maddison believes that they can claw their way back into the top half sooner than anticipated.

James Maddison’s bold declaration ahead of Man City clash

Tottenham now have a tough run of fixtures leading up to next month’s international break, with the Lilywhites set to face Man City, Bournemouth and Fulham over the next three games.

Maddison is confident that Spurs can carry on the momentum, pick up positive results in those games and head into the international break in a much stronger position.

When asked if Tottenham have a chance to whittle down the lead by getting the better of three sides above them in the table, the attacking midfielder told Football.London: “We’re talking a lot about the logistics there. We’ve just got to take every game and keep winning, it’s three in a row, so it’s good momentum for us in the league.

“City at home, I think at home we can beat anyone, really, it’s just about sticking together consistently and hoping to get a couple more good results before that international break.”

Tottenham will be confident heading into tomorrow’s clash

We have seen Spurs get the better of much superior Man City sides than this one over recent years, especially at home, with the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium not proving a happy hunting ground for the Premier League champions.

There is no reason why Postecoglou’s men should not go into this game full of confidence after their recent results.

A win for Tottenham on Sunday will reduce their gap with City to just eight points, which is far from insurmountable, given the amount of football left to be played this season.
