James Maddison names the Spurs game he is most excited for next season

James Maddison has been looking ahead to his first season with Tottenham Hotspur, and has earmarked the North London derby as the game he is most excited about.

It has been a busy summer already for Tottenham and their new manager, Ange Postecoglou, with three signings already confirmed during the current transfer window.

The latest addition, James Maddison, fills a creative void that has been present in the Spurs squad since Christian Eriksen left the club in 2020.

The playmaker was a priority target for Postecoglou this summer (Telegraph). Tottenham moved fast over the last week to secure the signing of Maddison in a £40m deal (Guardian).

There are high hopes for what Maddison can bring to Spurs and the new system under Postecoglou. The player himself has already spoken to the club about his eagerness to get going next season.

Maddison can’t wait to play against Arsenal

Now, Maddison has pinpointed the fixture he is most looking forward to for the upcoming Premier League campaign, and the North London derby is right at the top of his list.

During a ‘Behind the Scenes’ interview with SpursPlay, Maddison said: “I think whenever you sign for Tottenham the one fixture you look forward to is the North London derby, one hundred per cent.

“It’s such a big game, such a big game for everyone really when it happens.”

Tottenham will be hoping to fare much better against Arsenal this season. In the 2022/23 campaign, Arsenal bested their rivals both home and away and finished above Spurs for the first time since 2016.

Spurs will visit Arsenal at the Emirates on September 23, 2023. The Gunners will then make their way to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium on April 27, 2024.

Spurs Web Opinion

We have to do far better against Arsenal this year.

Last season was an embarrassment as we lost to the Gunners twice and finished far below them in the table.

At the very least, we have to win the game at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium in the forthcoming campaign.
