James Maddison names the Spurs star who is the ‘joker in the pack’ so far

Based on his first impression of the squad, James Maddison has named Yves Bissouma as the funniest guy in the changing room at Tottenham.

Maddison is now getting to know his new teammates on a pre-season tour, with a big squad of 31 players having travelled to Australia.

The attacking midfielder already knows the likes of Eric Dier, Harry Kane and Fraser Forster from England duty and has played against the majority of his new teammates.

The attacking midfielder met Son Heung-min in Perth, with the South Korean flying straight to Australia from his home country.

When asked about his first impressions of the forward, Maddison told Spurs Play: “He’s a top man. I’ve met him a few times anyway. To be fair, on the whole, the whole group has been very welcoming. Good banter, easy to transition into.

“Sometimes, as a new player, it can be difficult going into a new changing room. Me personally, I have always tried to make sure, if there is a new player, just to make them feel welcome and now it’s me (who is new).”

One man who has looked like a bundle of energy in the recent training clips released by the club is Bissouma, who will be hoping to get back to his best after a disappointing first season at Tottenham.

Yves Bissouma is a source of fun at Tottenham

Maddison admitted that the Mali international has made quite a first impression on him, revealing that he has monopolised the speaker in the changing room already.

When asked who the joker of the dressing room is, the 26-year-old said: “To be fair, there are a few candidates in here. Few of the foreign boys have got a bit of banter and I can tell are the jokers.

“Bissouma’s funny. He has already marked his territory on the speaker in the training ground, saying ‘I’m the DJ. No one else’. Give it a few weeks and I’ll be in there.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Maddison certainly comes across as extremely easygoing and quite emotionally intelligent, and will thus have no issues quickly settling in at Spurs.

In fact, I can see the former Leicester man becoming one of the leaders of the changing room before too long.
