James Maddison reveals one Ange Postecoglou trait he has ‘never seen’ before

James Maddison has said that he has never seen any manager being able to capture the full attention of the players in the way Ange Postecoglou does when he decides to address the squad.

Postecoglou has received plenty of plaudits for his high-risk, front-foot style of play, refusing to veer away from it irrespective of the circumstances or the opposition his side is coming up against.

But perhaps the one attribute that sets him apart from even the best managers in the game is his ability to communicate.

The Australian’s authenticity and emotional intelligence come across in the way he addresses the media, and he uses his oratory skills to good effect to also get his players up for matches.

Maddison impressed by Ange Postecoglou’s team talks

Maddison has revealed that the Tottenham players are unable to blink when the 58-year-old decides to address them, admitting that the Spurs head coach knows exactly the kind of stories and analogies to use to get his message across.

The attacking midfielder told Amazon Prime Video about Postecoglou: “When he does meetings in the build-up to a game, you’re zoned into everything [he says]. I’ve never seen meetings like it, even though I’ve worked with a good few managers now.

“His motivational speaking, when he gets into it, you don’t blink. He has that charisma, the way he talks, the way he uses little stories, messages, analogies, it works.”

The fact that Postecoglou does not get too close to the players and is not directly involved in the specifics of the everyday training sessions, would likely add to his aura. So when he does decide to speak to the players, his words would have a much greater effect on the squad.
