James Maddison says there is more to come from one Spurs youngster

James Maddison was one of several Tottenham players to congratulate Alejo Veliz on his first goal for the club, backing the youngster to deliver a lot more goals in the future.

While Tottenham had an evening to forget at the Amex Stadium on Thursday, one of the few positives from the game was the fact that Veliz got off the mark.

The striker, who replaced Brennan Johnson in the 70th minute, showed composure to take a touch and place the ball into the bottom corner on 81 minutes after being picked out by Son Heung-min.

According to various reports over the last couple of months, the 20-year-old has impressed Ange Postecoglou and his coaching staff in training, with many at Hotspur Way excited about his potential (Sean Walsh – Talking Transfers Podcast).

Teammates praise Alejo Veliz after first Spurs goal

It seems like many of Veliz’s Tottenham teammates are also big fans of him, with the likes of James Maddison, Giovani Lo Celso and Emerson Royal congratulating the striker on his Instagram post.

When the Argentine youngster expressed his delight at opening his account, Maddison responded: “Congrats mate!! Now More.” Meanwhile, Lo Celso wrote: “Congratulations Tanquee, May it be the first of many” while Emerson added: ” Congratulations brother. To be continued.”

Unfortunately, Veliz picked up a nasty injury in the clash against Bournemouth, and the Argentine will now be working hard to get back and show is potential again as soon as possible.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is clear that Veliz is quite popular in the Tottenham changing room. Fingers crossed that injury is not too bad and he can get some more chances over the coming months.
