James Maddison takes fresh swipe at Simon Jordan after ‘relegated’ dig

James Maddison has taken another swipe at Simon Jordan after the TalkSPORT pundit aimed a second dig at the Tottenham Hotspur star.

James Maddison is never one to shy away from giving it large to his critics, and that has been a recurring theme from the Englishman throughout the campaign.

Earlier in the season, we saw him go toe-to-toe with Manchester United legend Roy Keane, who had claimed Maddison failed to deliver in the big moments.

Maddison would eventually have the last laugh in that particular back-and-forth, scoring against Keane’s former side before going on to lift his first-ever European trophy, although from the sidelines, as Tottenham Hotspur beat Manchester United once again in the final.

James Maddison fires back at Simon Jordan after Tottenham jibe

The former Leicester City midfielder has now directed his fire towards TalkSport pundit Simon Jordan, who had questioned whether Maddison had the credentials to be part of a title-winning team.

In response, Maddison posted a video to his Instagram story, which began with Jordan’s remarks, before cutting to scenes of him celebrating the Europa League triumph with his Tottenham teammates. The clip was cheekily captioned: “Bookmarked it. Knew it would come in handy.”

Jordan, however, has not backed down and instead decided to double down, this time taking a swipe at Maddison by referencing Tottenham’s lowly league finish.

The pundit said, “You win things now with James Maddison and your team gets relegated. Perhaps if he had been available for Spurs more this season, they might have got relegated – they did their very best to try to, did they not, by finishing fourth from bottom?”

Speaking live on TalkSport, Maddison responded once again: “I do not want to get into a pillow fight with Simon Jordan. But listen, even with the Roy Keane thing and the Simon Jordan thing, it is all a little bit tongue in cheek, you know what I mean, over the course of the season, as a player, you have to accept people in the media giving you criticism and that is part and parcel.

“But when you win the trophy as a club, if you are not entitled to have a little dig back, then what is the point? People always want personality in players and then they moan there are not enough players with personality.”

Maddison defends his Europa League success with Spurs

Maddison went on to say he has no intention of changing his approach when it comes to addressing his critics, continuing: “I will never change… Simon said, Simon replied, the starting lineup, did he not?

“The screenshot of the starting 11 saying I did not play – but to be fair, that just tells me that Simon Jordan does not really quite understand what it takes to be a successful team because it is not just about the 11 players who play.

“If Simon wants to try take that away from me then be my guest. But you know, maybe just eat a bit of humble pie, put your hands up and say okay maybe James Maddison did win this season.”

Although Maddison was part of the Leicester City side that went down in 2023, his medal collection is nothing to scoff at.

He has already won the FA Cup and Community Shield with the Foxes and now adds European silverware to that list, having helped Tottenham win the Europa League.

It may not be the Premier League title, but as far as shutting down his critics goes, few responses are more powerful than lifting a continental trophy.
