Jamie Carragher claims Harry Kane is doing something Messi and Ronaldo do

Jamie Carragher has claimed that Tottenham striker Harry Kane looks like a ‘completely different player’ following his slow start to the season.

Kane has seemed a shadow of the striker that won the Premier League’s Golden Boot and Playmaker awards last season and has struggled to have a meaningful impact on games so far this campaign.

He has had trouble adapting to the play style of new manager Nuno Espirito Santo and is still waiting to notch his first Premier League goal of the season.

The England captain’s problems also carried over into international duty, where he failed to have much of an impact on proceedings during the Three Lions’ 1-1 draw against Hungary.

Liverpool icon Carragher believes Kane does not look like the same player from previous seasons and claims he is no longer of the centre-forward profile that he previously moulded himself into.

Speaking on The Overlap, he said: “We watch him a lot, we analyse the stats, and he’s a completely different player to what he was under Pochettino.

“I’m watching a different Harry Kane, what he does in terms of dropping off and what he did last season was amazing, but I don’t think he’ll ever be the centre-forward anymore, running in behind and pressing.

“I’ve not seen this for two of three years now, I didn’t see it in the summer with England. He conserves his energy a lot like Ronaldo and Messi now.”

Kane’s early season struggles for form have been well-documented, and he hasn’t been able to have an impact on games like he used to.

Last season, Kane was successful when dropping deep as he was been able to use his amazing passing ability to good effect, but he might have to start getting into the box more this time to change his fortunes.
