Jamie Donley assigned legacy number after making Tottenham debut

Jamie Donley has become the 880th player to represent Tottenham after his first-team debut at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, the club have revealed on their official website.

Donely has been an unstoppable force for the club’s Under-21s so far this season, having scored six goals and provided 11 assists in just 11 games across all competitions (Transfermarkt).

It was only a matter of time before the 18-year-old forced himself into Ange Postecoglou‘s thinking and after making the bench on a couple of occasions, he made his bow against Premier League champions Manchester City, replacing Brennan Johnson deep into injury time.

Speaking to Spurs Play after the 3-3 draw, the teenager admitted his delight at making his debut, thanking everyone who has helped him along the way through his journey to the English top flight.

Donley’s legacy number

Tottenham launched a legacy number initiative back in October, deciding to assign a unique legacy number to every player in the club’s history based on the chronological order in which they made their debuts for Spurs.

Donley has become the first player to make his debut for the club since the announcement of the initiative, thereby being immediately assigned a number. The versatile attacker has been assigned a legacy number of 880 which he will now wear going forward on his shirt when involved in first-team action.

The legacy number initiative is a great one by Tottenham and helps connect the players who represent Spurs to the club’s history, impressing on them that they are following in the footsteps of some great players.
