Jamie O’Hara admits he would take outcast from Premier League rival at Spurs

Jamie O’Hara has claimed that he would be happy to see Tottenham Hotspur make a move for Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire.

Reports over recent weeks have indicated that Antonio Conte is keen on adding reinforcements in central defence in January, with the likes of Rodrigo Becao (Tutto Udinese) and Stefan de Vrij (Football Insider) being mooted as potential targets for Spurs.

O’Hara has now claimed that the Lilywhites should look to raid their Premier League rivals for Maguire, who has found himself relegated to a bit-part role at Old Trafford under Erik Ten Hag this season.

Despite the 29-year-old’s poor form at club level over the last 18 months, he has continued to showcase his quality for England and had another solid World Cup in Qatar.

O’Hara believes that the former Leicester City man would fit the bill for what Conte’s men need in January.

The former Spurs midfielder told talkSPORT: “Tottenham has been a shout maybe for the centre-half. I know we need a centre-half. Manchester United are going to lose money. Say Spurs come in for him in January, I’d take him at Tottenham by the way. We need a centre-half.”

O’Hara’s co-host Jason Cundy agreed that the Red Devils would likely be prepared to sell Maguire for considerably less than the £80m they paid to sign him from Leicester in 2019 (BBC Sport).

Cundy added: “They’re not going to get anywhere near the £80m they paid for him. If they get somewhere near half of that I think that’s where you’re at.”

Spurs Web Opinion

This might not be a popular opinion but like O’Hara, I would take Maguire at Spurs. The 29-year-old has the attributes to do well in a back three and I believe Conte could get the best out of him.

The Man Utd star’s ability on the ball would also make him an excellent fit for the Italian’s system. The only issue is that Maguire is perfectly suited for the left centre-back role, for which we already have two decent options in Lenglet and Davies.
