Jamie O’Hara jokes he was avoiding Tottenham star on Sunday out of fear

Jamie O’Hara has praised Emerson Royal for his performance against Manchester City and joked that he was avoiding the Brazilian on Sunday after his vocal criticism of him over recent months.

Emerson delivered one of his most accomplished displays in a Spurs shirt on Sunday as he coped admirably with the threat of Jack Grealish down Manchester City’s left and also made lung-busting overlaps into the final third throughout the 90 minutes.

The fact he was voted Man of the Match by Spurs fans despite Harry Kane breaking Jimmy Greaves’ record in the game, is a testament to how good the Brazilian was against Pep Guardiola’s men.

Cristian Stellini singled out the former Real Betis man for praise in his post-match press conference, speaking in glowing terms of the ‘desire’ that the wing-back showed (Football.London).

O’Hara sang Emerson’s praises but joked that he was scared that the right-back would have some choice words to say to him on the touchline.

The former Spurs midfielder told talkSPORT (8:43 am, February 6, 2023): “Emerson Royal was absolutely superb yesterday. He was fantastic. I was avoiding him every time he came near me pitchside, and was thinking that he might say something.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While I still think that Emerson’s attacking shortcomings make him a poor fit for the wing-back role, the Brazilian is nowhere near as bad a player as some Spurs fans seemed to suggest.

I am delighted to see him get plaudits after some of the extremely harsh vitriol he has had to deal with over the past few months.
