Jamie O’Hara makes surprising claim on where Spurs need to strengthen

A number of members of the Tottenham backline have been guilty of some poor individual errors at the back over the last few weeks.

Jose Mourinho would have been disappointed with the manner of the goals his side conceded in the 5-4 defeat against Everton in the FA Cup last week and the 3-0 loss to Manchester City on Sunday.

The Spurs boss has admitted that he and his coaching staff are doing everything possible to eradicate those mistakes at the back.

Eric Dier, Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez and Joe Rodon have all been guilty of making unforced errors recently, which is why Mourinho is seemingly struggling to find his first-choice pairing at centre-back.

That perhaps explains why the Portuguese coach was reportedly keen on signing a central defender during the January transfer window.

It is an area that Spurs might prioritise in the summer but Jamie O’Hara has suggested that the team is in more desperate need of a number ten.

The former Tottenham midfielder took to social media to blast the North Londoners for a lack of identity after their 3-0 loss at the Etihad and insisted that the club should break the bank for a creative midfielder.

Our difficulty in creating chances does not come down to a lack of individual quality. The likes of Ndombele, Lo Celso, Alli, Lamela (and even Kane this season) have all shown in the past that they can thrive in the number ten role. It is the system that is to be blamed for our inability to progress the ball into dangerous areas. I still believe that a central defender and a defensive midfield partner for Hojbjerg (depending on whether Jose feels Oliver Skipp is ready) should be our priorities in the summer.
