Jamie Redknapp believes this Spurs star needs to go back to his roots

Tottenham Hotspur have had a number of unlikely heroes this season in the Premier League and Champions League, such as Lucas Moura, Moussa Sissoko, and Fernando Llorente.

However, a large part of this stems from a number of established Tottenham stars enduring below par seasons, with Dele Alli, Kieran Trippier, and Christian Eriksen jumping out as three guilty names in my opinion.

Dele Alli burst onto the scene in North London after signing from MK Dons, and even racked up 18 goals in his best ever season.

However, this year he only managed five in the Premier League, partly down to a deeper midfield position, but also due to a lack of form.

Spurs fans have not been treated to the usual aggressive attacking play and consistency from Alli this season, but he is still young and there is time for improvement.

Jamie Redknapp believes that the secret lies in Alli’s ‘nasty streak’ (Sky Sports 09/06/19 1:45 pm): “I am a big fan of Dele Alli’s. A couple of years ago he got 18 goals, last season nine goals and this season five.

“He’s definitely not trained on. I think he has become nice. I want to see Dele Alli with a bit of a nasty streak to him. Wanting to get on the ball. This season, he is flicking it a lot, he is trying to show us how good he is.

“When Dele is at his best, I think of that League 2 player almost. Comes in with that raw attitude and aggression. He has to get back to that because that’s what makes Dele the player that he is.”
