Jamie Redknapp dismisses what he has heard about sneaky Tottenham plan

Jamie Redknapp has dismissed suggestions that Tottenham Hotspur will not try to beat Manchester City in the penultimate game of the season due to the possibility that it might hand their bitter rivals the title.

Spurs now find themselves in a tricky spot as they know that they could potentially hand Arsenal the Premier League title if they were to get a result against Man City, who come to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 14 May.

Almost all Spurs fans want their side to lose against Pep Guardiola’s men as they do not want to see the Gunners lifting the trophy.

That is even more true now, given that the Lilywhites are likely to be out of contention for Champions League qualification by the time City come to town.

Tottenham will not let Manchester City win

However, Redknapp has pointed out that irrespective of what the supporters feel, the Spurs players will give 100 per cent and try their best to cause an upset.

The pundit told talkSPORT (at 9:39 am, 07/05): “When people talk about, are they not going to try, they are not going to hand the title to Arsenal, you can’t do that as a player. It is just impossible.

“Fans might think it can happen, but there is no way. You are going to be live on Sky, you want to perform, you want to show your best. What are you going to do? You’re not going to go into a tackle? Is the goalkeeper not going to want to save a shot? That’s not how it works in football.”

There is no doubt that Postecoglou will set the team up to win the game and the Tottenham players will try their hardest to get the result.

However, the atmosphere at the stadium will be quite weird and Spurs fans will certainly not be too happy to see their own side winning. Some of that nervous energy from the stands will inevitably transfer onto the players, which is why I do not see us getting a result.
