Jamie Redknapp explains why Spurs player leaves him frustrated

Tottenham managed to snatch a draw against Manchester City despite being under the cosh for most of the game.

To many people’s surprise, Mauricio Pochettino opted to start Erik Lamela and left Lucas Moura on the bench for the game; with the Brazilian making way for Christian Eriksen in the starting eleven.

Pochettino’s decision was arguably proved right as Lamela got on the score sheet in the first half.

However, Lucas Moura also came off the bench in the second half with immediate effect as he headed home an in-swinging corner from Lamela after just 19 seconds of taking to the field. His pace on the counter seemed to provide a different dimension to Tottenham’s attack

Former Liverpool and Spurs midfielder Jamie Redknapp said during Sky Sports’ live coverage of the match on their Premier League channel on 18/8/19 from 5:00pm that he is frustrated with Moura.

He said that while the Brazilian’s talent is clear for all to see, he needed to be more consistent with his performances.

Speaking about former PSG man, Redknapp said: “It’s an interesting one with Moura because he came on and changed the game. You think why is he not starting him.

“I watched him at White Hart Lane last week though and he was really ineffective.

“There are times when you watch him and you see he has so much pace and ability, but then he doesn’t affect other games. I get frustrated with him because he’s got so much ability.”

Lucas Moura is arguably more effective coming off the bench the opposition defenders have tired legs. With Son Heung-Min now back from suspension, the Brazilian will probably have to be content with a place on the bench for the upcoming games.
