Jamie Redknapp picks his six nominees for the player of the year – overlooking Tottenham star

Tottenham Hotspur have had some stand out players this season on the way to their best ever points tally, but could any of them win the PFA Player of the Season?

Harry Kane has shone through once again with his goals in a Spurs shirt, and is in the running for the golden boot despite being out injured for a month.

The likes of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen have been solid as usual at the back, but have been unable to play together for large parts of the season due to injury.

Harry Winks has been immense in that Tottenham engine room, as has Moussa Sissoko, as they both enjoy their best ever season for Spurs.

However, there is one other name on people’s lips at the moment, and that is Heung Min Son.

Sonny has been on fire this season, scoring 10 Premier League goals since November 24.

However, Jamie Redknapp has left him out of his six man shortlist for PFA.

Redknapp instead went for Harry Kane, David Silva, Eden Hazard, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Mo Salah, and Virgil Van Dijk.

Redknapp said (Daily Mail): ‘Son Heung-min is having the season of his life. He has scored 10 Premier League goals from just 14 starts — including crucial strikes in each of Tottenham’s last two games — and has helped take the burden off Harry Kane.

‘His work rate cannot be questioned. Son made more sprints than any player on the pitch in both of Spurs’ games last week despite having recently flown back from the Asian Cup with South Korea.

‘He has stepped up and become a key player for Mauricio Pochettino. It is to his immense credit that he is being talked about as a player of the year contender. While Son is making a convincing case, he doesn’t quite get into my six-man shortlist.’
